ASEAN LECTURE SERIES AT THE JORDAN INSTITUTE OF DIPLOMACY

19 January 2017, Amman - Members of the ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA) delivered a lecture on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on 18 January 2017 at the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy (JID).  The event was organized by JID headed by Ambassador Lina Arafat.

 

The lecture was among the last activities of the ACA before the turn-over of the chairmanship from the Philippines to Brunei Darussalam. It was also the second installment of the ASEAN Lecture Series at the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy which started with the lecture on Arabic and Islamic Influences in the ASEAN Region by Dean Macrina Morados of the UP Institute of Islamic Studies in October 2016.

The Embassy of the Philippines in Amman once again successfully participated in the Annual Diplomatic Bazaar held on 29 October 2016, at Al Hussein Youth City, under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal.  The Diplomatic Bazaar is being held annually for the benefit of the children of Mubarrat Um Al-Hussein, an orphanage in Marka in west Amman.

AMMAN PE HOLDS ANNUAL TEAM BUILDING ACTIVITY IN WADI RUM

The Embassy of the Philippines in Amman held its Team Building Activity from 20-21 October 2016 (Thursday-Friday) in Wadi Rum, Jordan.  Wadi Rum, also known as The Valley of the Moon, is the largest desert valley in Jordan, covering 720 sq. kms. of Jordan’s desert.  Wadi Rum became known worldwide due to Lawrence of Arabia and is a favorite location of film shootings depicting Mars. A total of 21 participants from Amman PE participated in the event.

FILCOM IN JORDAN WOWED THE CROWD IN AMMAN SUMMER FESTIVAL 2016

In line with Philippine Embassy’s year-long activities to celebrate 40 years of Philippines-Jordan bilateral relations and to mark ASEAN Week, the Filipino community in Jordan, together with the Indonesian community, participated in the Amman Summer Festival 2016 on 12 August 2016 at King Hussein Park Amphitheater.  The festival, which opened on 04 August, is an annual summer event in various parts of Amman being organized by the Greater Amman Municipality.  It offers the Jordanian public free fun and entertainment and aims to further enhance tourism, showcasing Amman as a peaceful and stable multicultural city.

The Filipino community in Jordan did the Philippines and the 40th anniversary of Philippines-Jordan bilateral relations proud after their well-applauded performance in Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts 2016 on 29 July 2016.  This was the first time that the Philippines was represented in Jerash Festival which happens annually in the ancient city of Jerash, Jordan. The festival, which opened on 21 July, is one of the popular cultural events in Jordan which aims to promote the participating countries’ culture through several shows and performances.

OFWS IN JORDAN LEARN BASIC SELF DEFENSE STRATEGIES AS PART OF THE 18-DAY CAMPAIGN TO END VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

Pursuant to Republic Act 10398 providing for the observance of the 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women, the Embassy of the Philippines in Amman organized a Free Self-Defense Workshop for Women on 11 December 2015, Friday, at Pro Dojo Martial Arts Studio in Amman. 

 

Twenty (20) Filipinas participated in the two-hour basic self-defense workshop.  They learned simple and effective ways on how to defend themselves against harassment, attacks, and rape.  Pro-Dojo professional mixed martial arts instructors, Ms. Irish Villanueva and Mr. Fadi Hananiah, shared various techniques and tips on self-defense.

 

The participants appreciated Post’s initiative and were enthusiastic to improve their newly acquired skills by enrolling in various self-defense classes in Amman.

ASEAN EMBASSIES IN JORDAN CELEBRATES THE 48TH ANNIVERSARY OF ASEAN

The ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA) in cooperation with the Greater Amman Municipality celebrated the 48th Anniversary of ASEAN on August 04-08, 2015.  This year’s ASEAN Festival is a week-long celebration featuring film showings from ASEAN Member Countries from August 4-7 capped by the ASEAN Day Celebration highlighting ASEAN diversity on August 08 at the Ras Al Ain Gallery Hall. H.E. Mayor Aqel Biltaji of the Greater Amman Municipality was the guest of honor during the event.  Activities included flag-hoisting of the ASEAN flag, ribbon and cake-cutting and viewing of ASEAN booths showcasing ASEAN products and crafts, and ASEAN food festival.  The celebration also showcased the music, talent, and even martial arts of the people of ASEAN and of Jordan.  Attendees from both Jordanian and ASEAN community were estimated at around 500 guests.

Amman PE Holds the First-Ever Filipino Film Showing in Jordan

09 June - In line with the celebration of 116th anniversary of Philippine independence, the Embassy of the Philippines in Amman, in partnership with the Royal Film Commission of Jordan and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), held the first-ever Filipino Film Days 2014 from 04 to 06 June 2014 at Rainbow Theater, in downtown Amman. The event featured the award-winning films, “Tanging Yaman” on June 04, “Himala” on June 05 and “Anak” on June 06.

 

The event officially opened with a simple reception on 04 June 2014, attended by Jordanian film enthusiasts, members of the diplomatic corps and members of the Filipino community in Amman, where biko, chicken adob, Skyflakes crackers and hot salabat were served. All the three nights were well-attended by around 150 guests who very much appreciated the films and lauded the Philippine film industry for its depiction of Filipino culture, family values, religious traditions and the strength of Filipinos, especially the film “Anak” with which the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Jordan, were able to relate with.

 

In view of the overwhelming positive feedback and public appreciation of this year’s Filipino Film Days, the Embassy intends to hold this event annually, more likely in the first week of June, as part of its celebration of Philippine Independence Day, as well as to educate the local community on the richness of Philippine culture, through films. The Philippine Embassy in Amman once again participated in the Annual International Bazaar last 13 October 2012, at Al Hussein Youth City. The annual event, which is held under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal and participated in by around eighty (80) Diplomatic Missions accredited to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, was able to generate funds for the children of Mabarrat Um Al Hussein. The 2012 Annual Summer Sportsfest organized by the Federation of the Filipino Organizations (Fil-Org) in Jordan officially ended on 24 August 2012 at the Collegium Terrae Sanctae in Jabal Al-Weibdeh, Ammanwith the awarding ceremony graced by Ambassador Olivia V. Amman PE participated in the “Arts from Asia” Exhibit organized by the Asian Ambassadors’ Ladies in Amman (AALIA). The Embassy of the Philippines in Amman once again successfully participated in the Annual Diplomatic Bazaar held on 10 October 2015, at Al Hussein Youth City, under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal.  The Diplomatic Bazaar is being held annually for the benefit of the children of Mubarrat Um Al-Hussein, an orphanage in Marka in west Amman.

ASEAN EMBASSIES IN JORDAN CELEBRATES THE 48TH ANNIVERSARY OF ASEAN

The ASEAN Committee in Amman (ACA) in cooperation with the Greater Amman Municipality celebrated the 48th Anniversary of ASEAN on August 04-08, 2015.  This year’s ASEAN Festival is a week-long celebration featuring film showings from ASEAN Member Countries from August 4-7 capped by the ASEAN Day Celebration highlighting ASEAN diversity on August 08 at the Ras Al Ain Gallery Hall. H.E. Mayor Aqel Biltaji of the Greater Amman Municipality was the guest of honor during the event.  Activities included flag-hoisting of the ASEAN flag, ribbon and cake-cutting and viewing of ASEAN booths showcasing ASEAN products and crafts, and ASEAN food festival.  The celebration also showcased the music, talent, and even martial arts of the people of ASEAN and of Jordan.  Attendees from both Jordanian and ASEAN community were estimated at around 500 guests.

Amman PE Holds the First-Ever Filipino Film Showing in Jordan

09 June - In line with the celebration of 116th anniversary of Philippine independence, the Embassy of the Philippines in Amman, in partnership with the Royal Film Commission of Jordan and the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), held the first-ever Filipino Film Days 2014 from 04 to 06 June 2014 at Rainbow Theater, in downtown Amman. The event featured the award-winning films, “Tanging Yaman” on June 04, “Himala” on June 05 and “Anak” on June 06.

 

The event officially opened with a simple reception on 04 June 2014, attended by Jordanian film enthusiasts, members of the diplomatic corps and members of the Filipino community in Amman, where biko, chicken adob, Skyflakes crackers and hot salabat were served. All the three nights were well-attended by around 150 guests who very much appreciated the films and lauded the Philippine film industry for its depiction of Filipino culture, family values, religious traditions and the strength of Filipinos, especially the film “Anak” with which the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Jordan, were able to relate with.

 

In view of the overwhelming positive feedback and public appreciation of this year’s Filipino Film Days, the Embassy intends to hold this event annually, more likely in the first week of June, as part of its celebration of Philippine Independence Day, as well as to educate the local community on the richness of Philippine culture, through films. AMMAN PE HOLDS OAV OUTREACH IN DEAD SEA AND AQABA

The Philippine Embassy in Amman once again participated in the Annual International Bazaar last 13 October 2012, at Al Hussein Youth City. The annual event, which is held under the patronage of HRH Princess Basma Bint Talal and participated in by around eighty (80) Diplomatic Missions accredited to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, was able to generate funds for the children of Mabarrat Um Al Hussein. The Annual International Bazaar is one of the biggest sources of financial support for the Um Al Hussein Foundation.

2012 Annual Summer Sportsfest Culminates

The 2012 Annual Summer Sportsfest organized by the Federation of the Filipino Organizations (Fil-Org) in Jordan officially ended on 24 August 2012 at the Collegium Terrae Sanctae in Jabal Al-Weibdeh, Ammanwith the awarding ceremony graced by Ambassador Olivia V. Palala. This was the first Filipino community event attended by Ambassador Palala since she arrived and assumed Post on 31 July 2012. Amman PE participated in the “Arts from Asia” Exhibit organized by the Asian Ambassadors’ Ladies in Amman (AALIA). The Filipino Organization in Jordan (Fil-Org Jordan) joined forces with certified and qualified Filipino and Jordanian nurses from Al Khalidi Hospital to conduct a Caregivers' Course for OFWs wanting to enhance their skills in care-giving.
