President-elect and Vice President-elect proclaimed

Senator Benigno Simeon Cojuangco Aquino III, the only son of Philippine democracy icons Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino Jr. and President Corazon "Cory" Aquino, was proclaimed today as President-elect after the Senate and House of Representatives met in joint session to consider the report of the National Board of Canvassers that tallied the results of the national elections held a month ago on 10 May 2010.

Also proclaimed as Vice President-elect was former Makati Mayor Jejomar C. Binay who ran under a different ticket but won over Aquino's running mate, Senator Manuel "Mar" Roxas II.

Aquino will be sworn into office as the 15th President of the Republic of the Philippines at the stroke of noon on 30 June 2010, shortly after Binay himself takes his oath as the 14th Vice President.
